Thrissur is known as the 'Cultural Capital' of Kerala. Thrissur is famous for Thrissur Pooram festival held every year. The festival attracts thousands of people from all over Kerala. Vadakkumnathan Temple is a famous temple in the centre of the city.

The famous Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple is also located in the Thrissur district. Another attraction of Thrissur city is the 'Puli Kali' held on the fourth day of Onam. Thiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple and Paramelkavu Bhagavathy Temple are the other two important temples in the district.

Our Lady of Lourdes Metropolitan Cathedral and the Our Lady of Dolor’s "New Church" Basilica are the two important churches in Thrissur.
