Mullakkal RajaRajeswari Temple
Mullakkal Rajarajeswari Temple is located
3 km away from Alappuzha KSRTC Bus station and is a very famous shrine for
Goddess Sri RajaRajeswari.
It is believed that Goddess RajaRajeshwari appeared at the site of the
temple to take care of a Jasmine flower, so the name Mullakkal. 'Mulla'
means Jasmine in Malayalam.
The temple attracts a lot of devotees during the two festivals -
Navarathri and Thaipooyakavadi. The nine day Navarathri festival is of
special significance to the people of Alappuzha. Nine caparisoned
elephants leads a colourful procession during Navarathri. Cultural
programmes and Musical concerts are held at this time in the temple
premises.
During the Thaipooyakavadi festival 15 kavadis take part in a wonderful
procession held in the evening.
Alappuzha Railway Station is the nearest rail route. Cochin International
Airport is the nearest airport, about 80 km away from Alappuzha.
