Kerala's largest Fresh water Lake 'Sasthamkotta' lies 29 km away from Kollam town. Sasthamkotta lake has about 27 species of Fresh water fish and 2 genera of prawns. Also, the lake provides water supply to the entire Kollam district. Sasthamkotta lake is surrounded by hills on three sides and a bund on the remaining one side.A famous Sastha Temple is present at this place. Sasthamkotta derives its name from this temple. The Sasthamkotta Temple is dedicated to Dharma Sastha and Lord Ganesha. The temple which is surrounded by hills and forests houses many monkeys, which are considered holy and devotees feed them with fruits and nuts. The monkeys here are human friendly.
