Bachelor Sambar
Sambar is one of the most loved and mostly used dish in South India, especially Tamil Nadu. It is a blend of Tur Dal and various vegetables. The following Recipe is an easy to cook Sambar, which can be made very easily.
Ingredients
Tur Daal (Thuvara Parippu) - 1 cup
Potato - 2 nos
Onion (Big) - 2 nos
Brinjal (Kathirikka) - 1
Drumstick - 1
Lady's Finger - 3 or 4
Tomato - 2 nos
Green Chillies - 2
Oil - 1 tsp
Sambar Powder - 2 tsp
Chilli Powder - 1/2 tsp
Coriander Powder - 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 spring
Method
Cut the vegetables into cubes.
Cook the Tur Daal and vegetables (except Tomato and 1 onion) separately in a cooker along with Turmeric powder, Chilli powder and salt.
Pour oil into a hard bottomed pan and add mustard seeds and allow to splutter.
Put Curry leaves to the oil and add the remaining onion (thinly sliced) to this and cook for some time.
When the onion turn its colour, add tomato and cook for some more time.
Add Coriander Powder and Sambar Powder.
Add the cooked and mashed Turdal to this mixture and mix. Again add the cooked vegetables.
When the Sambar starts boiling, take it off from the stove.
