Achinga Payar Thoran
Achinga Payar Thoran is a very common dish in Kerala homes. Ilavan Payar are grown in many of the houses in Kerala.
Ingredients
Achinga Payar - 1/4 kg (thinly sliced into small pieces)
Desiccated Coconut - 1 cup
Green Chillies - 2 (sliced lengthwise)
Garlic flakes - 2
Curry Leaves - 1 spring
Dry Red Chillies - 2 nos(cut into pieces)
Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
Black gram (Uzhunthu parippu) - 1 tsp
Coconut Oil - 2 tsp
Salt - as required
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
Method
Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and black gram and allow them to splutter.
Add curry leaves and dry red chillies and fry them for a minute.
Add the Achinga Payar to this along with salt and turmeric powder.
Add a little water to this and cook them covered for 2-3 minutes.
Crush the desiccated coconut, garlic and green chillies.
Add the coconut mix to the Achinga payar and mix them well until all the water is evaporated.
Achinga Payar Thoran is ready to be served.
