Kalimannu, the forthcoming Malayalam movie, written and directed by Blessy, tells the story of the relationship between a mother and her baby, before and after birth. Swetha Menon play the leading role of the mother.

The movie created a lot of controversies as Swetha Menon's delivery was shot live on camera for this film. Kalimannu was shot over a period of many months, almost the span of Swetha Menon’s pregnancy, to cover various stages of pregnancy. The delivery was shot on camera from the labour room of a Mumbai hospital with permission. This is the first Indian film which shot footages of natural childbirth.

Thomas Thiruvalla is the producer of this movie under the banner of Cherummuttadathu Films. Satheesh Kurup is the cinematographer. M. Jayachandran scores music for the lyrics of ONV Kurup.

Biju Menon, Prashanth Nair and others are also in the cast. The film created lot of controversies across Kerala with many politicians, woman right activists coming against the screening of the movie.

Kalimannu will reach theatres in August 2013.
