Director Sujoy Ghosh of Jhankaar Beats fame said his upcoming flick Aladin is not less than Hollywood flicks like Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings. Sujoy planned to make this movie five years back and the script of this big budget movie was written in a year and a half.

Ritiesh Deshmukh is doing the lead role in the movie with Sri Lankan actress Jackie Fernandez. Sanjay Dutt is doing the role of the villain in the movie. Aladin also stars Juhi Chawla and Sameera Reddy in pivotal roles. This is a modern re-imagining of the classic tale of Aladin and The Magic Lamp.

Aladin Chatterjee (Rithesh) lives in the city of Khwaish. He is an orphan who has been bullied since childhood by Kasim and his gang. But his life changes when Jasmine his love, gives him a magic lamp with a genie. Amitabh Bachchan is Genie he fight against the villainous Ringmaster, portrayed by Sanjay Dutt.

The story is contemporary and the movie was shot in around 150 days.

Eros International, which is producing the film, also makes foray into visual effects with their recently launched EyeQube Studios. The post production work took almost a year.

Aladin is also one of the first Hindi films in which a film studio announced plans to produce a sequel before the release of the film.

The music of the movie is composed by Vishal and Shekhar. It also features songs sung by Amitabh Bachchan as well as Sanjay Dutt.

Aladin will be released on October 30, 2009
