Chetan Bhagat, the author of One Night @ Call Centre, Five Point Someone, Three Mistakes of My Life has teamed up with Raj Kumar Hirani to make Aamir Khan starrer 3 idiots.

Apart from Big A, Sharman Joshi, Madhavan, Boman Irani and Kareena Kapoor stars in this film. Joshi was last seen playing Aamir's campus buddy in Rakesh Omprakash Mehra's Rang De Basanti.

Initially Shah Rukh Khan was to do the role but the makers moved away from him as SRK wanted to produce the film.

The film's story happens in an engineering college and is based on the prevalent education system in India. This story of three colleagues whose poor grade at the IIT influence their friendship, love life and career choices. The film is inspired from individuals, who were considered to be idiots for working on certain causes, but finally made a mark in society.

Aamir plays the character of Rancho, who is free spirited and ever confused about kissing. Madhavan's character is of Farhan Qureshi who is like, walking upon the wrong path with full enthusiasm.

The poster has been designed by Rahul Nanda. Shantanu Moitra has given the music for 3 Idiots while the lyrics are by Swanand Kirkire.

Tagline of film is 'Don't be stupid, be an idiot.'

The film is produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who has produced Munnabhai series. It is slated for Christmas release.
