The domestic electricity cost in Kerala varies depending on the usage slab. The current rates are as follows:
- Up to 40 units: ₹3.15 per unit
- 41 to 100 units: ₹3.60 per unit
- 101 to 150 units: ₹4.03 per unit
- 151 to 200 units: ₹4.61 per unit
- 201 to 250 units: ₹7.60 per unit
- Above 250 units: ₹8.50 per unit
These rates are applicable for all domestic consumers, including individual houses, apartments, old age homes, and handlooms. There is a fixed charge of ₹50 per service, which is not applicable for consumers who consume less than 40 units per bi-monthly billing cycle.
The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC) periodically revises the electricity rates in the state to reflect changes in the cost of generation and distribution. The current rates were revised in June 2022.
