Early life Jagathy Sreekumar was born on the 5th of January in 1951 in Jagathy, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala as the son of noted dramatist and writer N. K. Achary. From childhood Jagathy Sreekumar dreamt of becoming an actor. He studied in Model School, Thiruvananthapuram. He acted in a play for the first time when he was a class V student there. He joined Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram after schooling. He became an experience theatre person by then.
Entry to Film field Jagathy entered into the silver screen as a comedian in `Chattambi Kalyani.' He earned reputation for his role in the film. Since then he acted in 1,070 odd Malayalam films to his credit. He is considered as one of the best actors in the Malayalam cinema.
Film Career Jagathy has never acted in any language other than Malayalam. He acted in 21 films out of the 64 released in the year 2006. He has few equals in the Indian cinema itself. He won the State Award for Second Best Actor in 2002 for Nizhalkkuthu, Meesha Madhavan (2002),Apoorvam Silar (1991) and Kilukkam (1988). He won maiden Sathyan Memorial Award in 2005. He won the Prem Nazir Award in 2005 for his contribution to Malayalam cinema spanning three decades. Kerala film critics award 2007 for second best actor for Classmates, Palungu and Vaastavam.
Family His wife Sobha is a home maker. His son Raj Kumar is a bank employee and his daughter Parvathy is a law student.
