Santa Cruz Basilica belongs to the Diocese of Cochin, the 2nd oldest Diocese in India
The history of the Diocese of Cochin begins with the arrival of Portuguese missionaries along with the famous explorer, Vasco da Gama, in Calicut.
When the Dutch conquered Cochin in 1663, they destroyed all the Catholic institutions except the Cathedral and the Church of St. Francis. The Cathedral used as an armoury was later destroyed when the British took over in 1795.
Holy Cross celebrated on September 14 is the Titular Feast. Our Lady of Most Holy Rosary: Celebrated on the 1st Sundry of October, with a grand colorful procession, led by His Excellency.
