Jayachandran was born in Bhadralayam, Ravipuram, Ernakulam, and later his family moved to Irinjalakkuda. Fascinated by the beautiful notes of Mridangam, he began to learn the essence of that spectacular instrument at a very tender age. But he had not learnt any sort of classical music.

His musical insight and his genuine love for music had helped him in conquering an esteemed position in all the music contests he had participated. This helped him to be the maestro of music.
