Jyothis Special School, Mavelikara

Jyothis School in Mavelikara provides a warm, caring home for dozens of children and young adults with special educational needs.

The school caters for over 100 students ranging in age from 4 to 25 years, around half of whom are full time boarders. The students have a wide range and variety of learning disabilities and many also have speech, physical or emotional difficulties.

During school times, students are taught academic subjects - reading, writing and arithmetic - in small age/ability groupings. Little is taught in the way of arts and crafts and it is such extra curricular skills that the volunteer will be expected to develop.

Jyothis School for Special Education was established in 1994 by the Mar Thoma church.
