Gouthami was a top heroine in Telugu, Tamil,Malayalam, Hindi and Kannada films

SHer first film was Dayamayudu was a Telugu movie based on the life of Jesus Christ.

She was a top heroine of Tamil cinema from the late 80's to the mid 90's. She has acted also in Kannada films. Prior to this, she had done a few movies in Malayalam, notably His Highness Abdulla which was a Mohanlal starrer, and Dhruvam, which was a Mammootty starrer.

She married Sandeep Bhatia in 1998, and divorced in a year. She now lives with Kamal Hassan. Recently she won award of Best Costume Designer for the movie Dasavatharam.
