Mezhukkupuratti
Mezhukkupuratti aka Upperi is one of the most delicious side dishes which goes very well with rice. It can be made with any vegetable like Brinjal (Kathirikka), Payar, Bitter Gourd (Pavakka), Potato, Lady's Finger (Vendakka), Raw Banana, Jack Fruit Seeds, Elephant Yam (Chena), Chembu, Carrots or Beet roots.
It is a dry dish. We can just blanch the vegetables in a salt, turmeric and chilli powder mixture and top it with oil to fry. Mezhukku means oil in Malayalam & Puratti means smear. It is one of the easiest method of cooking and is ideal for Bachelors or for people who are in a hurry. Ideal for taking with rice in the lunch box.
